🦏 Trip Highlights – Manas National Park, Assam

Cradled in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, Manas National Park is one of the most breathtaking and biodiverse wildernesses in India. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Project Tiger Reserve, Elephant Reserve, and Biosphere Reserve, Manas forms part of a vast trans-boundary ecosystem that continues into Royal Manas National Park in Bhutan.

Our 5-day expedition offers four full-day safaris across Manas’s three prime zones – Bansbari, Bhuyapara, and Panbari – and a special day trip to Bhutan’s adjoining forests for an unforgettable birding experience.

  • Four Full-Day Safaris in Core Zones – Cover the complete landscape of Bansbari’s grasslands, Bhuyapara’s riverine forest, and Panbari’s dense foothills, from sunrise to sunset.

  • Cross-Border Birding in Bhutan – Spend a day exploring the forests across the border, rich in high-altitude birds and scenic Himalayan vistas.

  • Incredible Wildlife Diversity – Encounter Royal Bengal Tigers, Asiatic Elephants, Indian Bison (Gaur), Wild Buffalo, Smooth-coated Otters, and Capped Langurs.

  • Home of the Endangered Golden Langur – One of the few places on Earth where this rare primate can still be seen in its natural habitat.

  • Birding Paradise of the Eastern Himalayas – Over 450 bird species, including Bengal Florican, Great Hornbill, Jerdon’s Babbler, Swamp Francolin, Wreathed Hornbill, and Black-tailed Crake with many many more.

  • Rivers, Grasslands & Himalayan Backdrop – The Manas River meanders through vast floodplains and into the shadow of the Bhutan hills, creating picture-perfect landscapes for photography.

  • Guided by Expert Naturalists – Learn tracking, field behavior, and conservation stories from seasoned Nemophilist Tour Leaders and local forest guides.

  • Eco-Conscious Small-Group Travel – Only 4 guests per Gypsy, ensuring an intimate, low-impact experience that supports local communities and conservation efforts.

Manas is where the Himalayas meet the plains — a land of rare species, powerful rivers, and stories that stay with you long after the forest falls silent.

🦏 Manas National Park – The Hidden Jewel of Assam

Day 1: Arrival at Guwahati – Journey to the Heart of Manas

Meet our team at Guwahati Airport around 12:30 PM, where your adventure begins. From here, we drive in a Sumo or similar vehicle through Assam’s lush countryside, towards the enchanting Manas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
By late afternoon, we reach our eco-lodge nestled inside the forest, right in the heart of this wild paradise.

After check-in, enjoy an ice-breaking and orientation session with your tour leaders — get introduced to the park’s unique zones and its incredible wildlife. The evening is reserved for rest, conversation, and soaking in the jungle’s quiet rhythm over dinner.

Day 2, 3, 4 & 5: Into the Wild – Full-Day Safaris Across All Zones

Wake up before dawn to the sounds of the jungle — the whoop of a langur, the distant call of a hornbill. After a quick cup of tea, embark on your morning safari, venturing into the wilderness as the forest wakes to life.

Over the next four days, we’ll explore all three prime zones of Manas — Bansbari, Bhuyapara, and Panbari — each offering a new landscape and new stories.

  • Bansbari Range: Rolling grasslands, herds of elephants, and the rhythmic call of the Bengal Florican, one of the rarest birds on Earth.

  • Bhuyapara Range: Riverine forests where Gaur, Wild Buffalo, and Smooth-coated Otters thrive along the glistening banks of the Manas River.

  • Panbari Range: Dense hill forests echoing with bird calls and a chance to see the Golden Langur — a species found only in this region.

  • Bhutan Side:  Signature Border Drive (Bhutan side approach): On one full day, we follow the Manas River along the Bhuyapara range, continuing on the scenic road toward the Bhutan frontier up to the Panbang Bridge viewpoint. Expect dazzling river vistas, Himalayan backdrops, and superb chances for riverine birds, hornbills in in the foothill stretches, plus photogenic late-afternoon light on the floodplains.

Manas is one of the few national parks in India that allows full-day safaris, offering the rare chance to spend entire days inside the forest.
After 4–5 hours of morning exploration, we’ll pause for lunch in the wild — either packed meals under the shade of trees or at small forest-side dhabas near the park’s edge.

Post-lunch, the forest transforms again — the golden light of afternoon filters through the Sal canopy as we search for Tigers, Dholes, and Leopards. The evening breeze carries the calls of peafowls and barbets, and every turn holds a new surprise.

Return by dusk, freshen up, and gather with your group for an evening of storytelling, photograph sharing, and wildlife discussions led by our tour leaders.
Enjoy a hearty dinner before drifting to sleep to the chorus of crickets and barking deer — the forest’s lullaby.

Day 6: Farewell to the Forest

Wake up to your final Manas sunrise and enjoy breakfast surrounded by birdsong. Around 8:00 AM, we depart for Guwahati, carrying with us a treasure trove of memories — the thrill of a tiger’s pugmark, the flash of a hornbill’s wing, and the serenity of the Manas River.

Stop for lunch en route and reach Guwahati by 2:00 PM, where the tour concludes — but the stories of Manas will stay with you forever.
